Dear Friend of Holocaust Education,

The Board of the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center will hold our annual fundraising luncheon on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Westin Hotel in Seattle from 11:30am to 1:30pm. This year we are honoring Leo Hymas, local liberator of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, veteran of Patton’s Third Army, and a tireless speaker and advocate for the Center for the past 11 years. Leo speaks to thousands of students and community groups each year about his experience and the critical importance of Holocaust education and human rights.

We are writing to give you an opportunity to place an ad in the tribute book to support Holocaust education in our region and to honor Leo Hymas and/or other survivors who work with the Center.

The proceeds from both the tribute book and the luncheon event will go to support the Holocaust Center in fulfilling its mission to inspire teaching and learning for humanity in the schools and communities of this region through study of the Holocaust.

The Center is recognized for providing teachers and community groups with the training and resources they need to teach about the Holocaust and to link these lessons to current issues such as genocide, hate crimes, anti-Semitism and the marginalizing of a people. Leo is a member of the Center’s Speakers Bureau which empowers students by teaching them to find their voice and be responsible citizens of our region, our nation and our world. This past year alone, speakers brought their stories to audiences totaling over 24,500.

The event, which will raise funds for the programs of the Holocaust Center, will recognize Leo for his continued commitment to Holocaust Education. Hosted by Enrique Cerna, KCTS Executive Director of Production, the program will feature local teacher Nick Coddington, winner of 2 national awards for his Holocaust teaching at Charles Wright Academy.

An order form is attached showing how you can send your message of congratulations, support, or thanks. Join the community of those recognizing the work of Leo Hymas and that of other local survivors who have supported Holocaust education. Your message will be placed in the tribute book “Voices for Humanity” and be distributed at the event.

To discuss your ad or for more information, please contact the Holocaust Center at 206-441-5747 or email admin@wsherc.org.

Your support will enable us to carry on the important work of Holocaust education.

Sincerely,

Chuck Stempler, President, Board of Directors
